Training

Coal & Allied is committed to building an effective culture and organisational capacity by providing opportunities for career development and by strengthening leadership effectiveness across the business.

To achieve this, Coal & Allied employees have the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills through ongoing training and development.

Programmes include the business development leadership programme (BDLP), operational leadership development programme (OLDP) and the front line leadership development programme (FLDP).

Site based training is also held and focuses on performance management and core leadership skills.

Results

In 2007 our target was to deliver leadership programmes across all sites. In this area our target was met, with 10 leaders attending the OLDP and BLDP programmes and 44 participating in the FLDP programme.

Across the FLDP programmes, 23 Coal & Allied employees graduated (or are awaiting graduation) with a Diploma and 18 with a Certificate IV in front line leadership.

In 2006 we also committed to delivering a common Coal & Allied training system to improve employee skills development in 2007.

Unfortunately, due to a delay in the implementation of the Group-wide business solution and employee portal, a common system has not been put in place. However, work has progressed to ensure each site has a common set of training qualifications and courses and this will from the basis for the common training system to be implemented in 2008.

In additions to these achievements several employees were provided with financial assistance to undertake further education such as university study and vocational training.
