Strong interest in Coal & Allied employment opportunities

Coal & Allied has welcomed strong interest from the Hunter Valley community in employment and training opportunities at its operations.

Manager Community Relations Jennifer Bowcock said several hundred people attended the Singleton shopfront to talk to Coal & Allied human resource officers, during two information sessions held earlier this month and this afternoon.

"We were surprised by this overwhelming display of interest in employment and training at Coal & Allied," said Ms Bowcock.

"We're always happy to talk to people about the way we operate and the strong contribution we make to the Hunter Valley.

"Coal & Allied employs about 1800 people and 1300 contractors, as well as supporting thousands of other jobs by doing business locally.

"Right now, we're in the process of filling around 80 positions including jobs for experienced workers and graduates, traineeships, and vacation placements for university students."

The information sessions are part of Coal & Allied's enhanced community relations programme, in response to the local community's interest in mining activities in the Hunter.

During September, the information display on employment at Coal & Allied will move to the Muswellbrook shopfront.

"People can drop into the shopfront anytime to look at our display on working for Coal & Allied and talk to our staff," said Ms Bowcock.

"We'll have two more information sessions at Muswellbrook in September where our human resources officers will be available for people to talk to.

"Given the strong interest today, we'll now also look at making the employment information sessions an ongoing feature in our shopfronts."

The Singleton shopfront will feature information on Coal & Allied's investment in the Hunter Valley community during September.

The shopfronts will also feature information on a range of other topics such as environmental management and cultural heritage in coming months.

Coal & Allied human resources officers will be available at the Muswellbrook shopfront from 9am to midday on the 15th of September and midday to 3pm on the 29th of September. Representatives from Coal & Allied's community development funds will be available at the Singleton shopfront at the same times.

The shopfronts at 127 John Street, Singleton and 19 Bridge Street, Muswellbrook are open to all members of the community year-round during business hours, Monday to Friday. Coal & Allied also has a freecall telephone enquiries line 1800 727 745 and an 'email us' facility at info@rtca.riotinto.com.au.
